On 22 July 2006, the Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) celebrated the farewell
of the eight-axled tramcars, with several special trains during the day and a
parade of four cars from Neumarkt to the West depot in the evening. This
Picture, taken during the parade, shows 3209 (in front) and 3205 (behind)
waiting at the signal at the stop Aachener Str./Gürtel, while 3230 is
approaching in the background. The photo was taken out of the rear of 3764,
which is just turning to the right towards the depot. Note that the train
indicator correctly shows "Zug endet hier" ("train ends here") three times.

tramcars was celebrated with special trains from Neumarkt to Junkersdorf and to
Poll, and a parade of four cars from Neumarkt to the West depot in the evening.
These cars are one-way vehicles with doors only on the right side. The two
articulations (located on the second and the third of the four bogies) are
clearly visible.

Tramcar 3209 of the Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) is parked in front of the
Thielenbruch museum in the evening of 22 July 2006. On this day the farewell of
the eight-axled tramcars was celebrated with special trains from Neumarkt to
Junkersdorf and to Poll, and a parade of four cars from Neumarkt to the West
depot in the evening. After the parade, 3764 (which belongs to the fleet of the
museum for several years) and 3209 (which was used for regular rush-hour
services until now) went to Thielenbruch. The picture was taken when 3764 was
already parked in the museum, it can be seen on the left in the background,
besides some older cars. As there is no space for 3209 in the hall (more
precisely: it is not planned to keep more than one eight-axled car), it was
later brought to the main workshop at Weidenpesch to be scrapped.

Tramcar 3217 of the Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) approaches the station
Chlodwigplatz on 19 February 2004, with another eight-axled car coupled behind.
Line 6, which is only operating during the rush hour, was run with double
tractions instead of single cars, as a high amount of passengers was expected
on that day ("Weiberfastnacht", the Thursday where the carnival starts). This
kind of operation would not have been possible in the past, before autumn 2003
the low section of the platform at Hansaring station was too short for two
cars.

Two KVB (Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe) trams of type GT8 near Barbarossaplatz. Nowadays these trams only run on line 6, usually as single unit. Due to the high demand on Wieverfastelovend (literally: women's carnival), the first day of carnival, two units are used. 23.2.2006 (c) stiller_the_at_symbol_brain.uni-freiburg.de |
