This is one of a series of 36 LRVs jointly purchased and operated by Karlsruhe's municipal transport corporation VBK, the regional railway AVG and the Deutsche Bahn AG, and it carries also the number 817 under the VBK/AVG numbering scheme. It is able to operate on electrified DB railway lines under 15 kV AC, 16 2/3 Hz as well as on Karlsruhe's standard gauge tramway net under 750 V DC. 1. April 1995, Bf. Karlsruhe Hbf, Deutschland Zweisystem-Stadtbahnwagen 450 001-3 der DB(AG) auf Linie S 3 (Karlsruhe Hbf - Bruchsal) bei der Ausfahrt aus dem Karlsruher Hauptbahnhof. Dies ist einer von 36 Stadtbahnwagen, die gemeinsam von den VBK (Stadtwerke Karlsruhe Verkehrsbetriebe), der NE-Eisenbahn AVG und der Deutschen Bahn AG beschafft wurden und betrieben werden.
