The Albtal-Verkehrsgesellschaft (Karlsruhe) has unique light-
rail trains that can operate both on tram and railway lines, of
the type GT8-100C/2Sy by Duewag and ABB. They have all necessary
equipments for both systems. This is one of them, the AVG No.
812, on the railway track near Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof.

Between 1991 and 1994, a number of local trains between Karlsruhe and Pforzheim were operated with the newly introduced VBK/AVG dual-system LRVs (although still under the authority of the DB), initially for test purposes and later as precursors to the replacement of all local trains on that line by light rail trains (now line S 5), which took place in 1995. One of these trains is train 6047 (Karlsruhe - Pforzheim), which is operated by LRV no. 809 of the VBK.
