"Der Adler" replica - first public showing since restoration
after a devastating fire Innotrans 2008, Berlin |
This fully operational reconstruction of the first steam
locomotive in Germany (DER ADLER of 1835 by George
Stephenson) was built in 1935 and is just called ADLER
(without the article). It is coupled to four cars (2nd
class, 1st class, 3rd class and 1st class) also built
a hundred years after their original prototype. As this
train is not conforming to all of today's standards, it
is transported between its special operations on two
special flat cars. Berlin-Spandau Johannesstift, 23
September 2000.

road with a lot of steam. Special run on the freight track
of the OHE (Osthavelländische Eisenbahn) between
Berlin-Spandau freight station and Bürgerablage.

The ADLER on the way back, with the tender in front.
In 1835, there were enough turntables everywhere to avoid
such constellations.
