DB express train steam locomotive 10 001, Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg
DB steam locomotive 10 001, exhibited at the Deutsches Dampflokomotiv-Museum (DDM) Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg. It is only one of two units built in 1957, a short time before the DB stopped acquiring new steam locomotives. Ten years later they were already put out of service. Only permitted to work on certain main lines as heavy express steam locomotives due to its axle load of 22 tonnes, 10 001 last hauled the E 387/388 (E 687/688) fast-stopping services from Kassel to Münster almost without a break from 21 March 1967 to the beginning of January 1968, and for one month even had special permission to continue as far as Rheine (which part of the route was only cleared for 20 tonne axle loads). Photo taken Wednesday 18 March 2009.
