Pacific 003 111 has just taken over haulage of a special trainload of British railway enthusiasts at Aachen Hbf in October 1970. The 4-6-2 proceeded via Koeln and the east bank of the Rhine, to Koblenz, where Pacific 001 073 took over for the next stage, through the Valley of the River Mosel, to Trier. From there a Class 44 took the train over the Eifel route to Euskirchen where two Class 55 0-8-0 headed the special via Deuren, to Aachen. Slide and scan by Roger Griffiths; jrcs@blueyonder.co.uk
