The station of Rathmannsdorf (near Bad Schandau, just across the Elbe) on a
sunny afternoon. You can see the remains of at least three subsequent
inscriptions shining through; it seems that at some time in history this
station was called "W...re".

Rauenstein station Railway station of Rauenstein located on the Hinterlandbahn Eisfeld–Sonneberg. It is a small terminus station south of the Thuringian Forest where trains have to change the direction due to difficult terrain. Since 4 October 2002 the station is served by the Süd-Thüringen-Bahn. Track layout in Rennsteig; two single-tracks come in from Ilmenau (right, in the background) and Themar via Schleusingen (left in the background), merge in the cross-switch then separate over the four tracks in Rennsteig station.
Originally part of the stretches to Ilmenau and Schleusingen were cog-railway. They were converted to normal operation in 1927. Passenger service was suspended in 1998.
In June 2014 a limited service was resumed, with four trains extending the Erfurt-Ilmenau line up to Rennsteig on saturdays, sundays and holidays.
