The station Lindern (on Aachen-Mönchengladbach) seen looking towards Aachen on 22 April 2008. Interestingly there are Ks light signals at track 1 and 2, but a semaphore signal at track 3. With the installation of the new electronic signalbox this station was in fact transformed into a stop (Haltepunkt) on the open line, combined with a junction. The latter forms the remaining connection between track 3 and the mainline at the other end of the station, while the connection at this end is out of service. Track 3 is now only used as access to the branch line to Oberbruch and Heinsberg (only freight traffic) which curves away in the background, note that it is not electrified any more. As the semaphore signal can not be actuated by the new signalbox, it has an M board (at the bottom of the red-white-red plate) allowing it to be passed on verbal permission.
