The old station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking eastwards from the Europaring bridge on 10 February 2002. The
trains towards Cologne use the new track on the right which will be used for
the S-Bahn (urban trains) in the future. The trains towards Aachen use the last
remaining old track next to it. Between it and the siding on the left the
northern highspeed track is under construction.

(ABS 4)
seen looking westwards from the Europaring bridge on 10 February 2002. The left
new highspeed track in the background, where D 419 (Oostende-Cologne) is
approaching, is connected to the new track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) on the
left. Trains towards Aachen use the last remaining old track, which is
connected to the right highspeed track in the background. The northern
highspeed track in the foreground seems to be finished, while the siding on the
right is beeing rebuilt during the weekend.

The temporary station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 25 February 2002. Signs at the pedestrian tunnel
show on which side of the line the trains for a certain direction can be found.
While the outer platforms are further west, the platform between the southern
old tracks and the northern new tracks can be recognized by the wooden
handlebar. For the time the old tracks are still in service, it is accessed
from the north side. When the new tracks will be in service, the wooden stairs
being under construction will give a short access from the south side.

The temporary station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 18 May 2002. On the left the southern temporary
platform is visible, behind it are the highspeed tracks and the other temporary
platform. The area on this side of the platform, where the old line was in the
past, will be used for a single track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) and a
platform. In the foreground the stairs leading to the platform are being built.

The old station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west on 30 May 2002. Between the two siding tracks and the
highspeed tracks, acoustic walls are under construction. Note that one end of
the double-slip switch is hand-operated and the other one is automatically
operated.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the temporary platform at the southern highspeed track on 15 June
2002. The wall seems to be the back side of the new platform for the S-Bahn
(urban trains). The single track will be built on the left.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the temporary platform at the southern highspeed track on 21 June
2002. I think the wall being constructed on the right will be the back side of
the platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains). On the left where there is a layer
of new ballast, a switch will be built, some sleepers and other parts are
already stored there. The switch will connect the single track next to the
platform with the two tracks running to Horrem.

(ABS 4)
seen looking eastwards from the Europaring bridge on 22 June 2002. In the
middle are the two highspeed tracks. The left one is used for the trains
towards Aachen, the right one is still under construction. Trains towards
Cologne use the rightmost track which will be used for the S-Bahn (urban
trains) in the future. On the left is the siding with two tracks in the
background.

(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 19 July 2002. This will be the staircase to the new
platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains). The single track of the S-Bahn will run
next to the temporary platform on the left.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east on 19 July 2002. The edge of the new platform for the
S-Bahn (urban trains) is being prepared. The single track will run on the left,
in the background the switch where it will branch into two tracks is already
visible. The platform will be on the right, the upper end of the staircase can
be seen in the foreground.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east on 15 August 2002. On the left is the first ballast
layer for the track of the S-Bahn (urban trains), on the right the platform
will be errected. The different walls on the right seem to be intended for a
way for pedestrians and bikers that will pass the platform and lead to the
Erfttalstraße bridge in the background.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east on 2 September 2002. Beginning from the eastern end,
the edge of the new platform is errected. On the left, some parts of track for
the S-Bahn (urban trains) is already visible, including the switch where the
two tracks coming from Horrem will join.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east on 7 September 2002. On the right is the end of the
platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains). Most of the tracks around the switch
are assembled. The single track forks into two tracks towards Horrem east of
the station.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the western end on 7 September 2002. The edge of
the new platform is nearly finished, some meters are still missing. In the
foreground (and further west) the track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) was just
tamped, even the rails are covered by grey dust. In the background the track
forks into two tracks towards Horrem.

This is the single track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) which is still under
construction. By now all trains use the two highspeed tracks on the right.

The old station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the Europaring bridge on 17 September 2002. The
two highspeed tracks in the middle are used by all trains (at normal speed) at
this time, the track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) on the right is not used. On
the left is a siding with two tracks. The old catenary masts in this area have
been removed. A new distant signal was installed at the S-Bahn track on the
right.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the western end on 9 November 2002. The surface of the platform is
partially finished, sand is applied to fill the gaps. Lanterns have been placed
in the whole area, so it seems that there will be no roof.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the western end on 12 November 2002. Instead of a big platform roof,
small houses are being errected. I doubt that they will give enough shelter for
all the passengers which will be waiting here in times of high traffic.

The new station of Sindorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the northern temporary platform in the morning of 9 December 2002.
Behind the southern temporary platform (by now used for all trains towards
Cologne) is the new platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains), which will go into
service on 15 December. The new platform is much better than the temporary one,
with a higher level (for stepless entrance), better seats and some roofs
(although they might be a bit small for all the passengers). Note that the new
station sign has another style than the old one, with white letters on a dark
blue background.

(ABS 4)
seen from the western end of the southern temporary platform in the evening of
14 December 2002, some hours before the S-Bahn (urban trains) service at this
new platform started. The temporary platforms at the main tracks (at the right
edge of the picture) are not used any longer, they will be removed soon.
