This sign in Königsdorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
is placed at the main street to mark the access to the station. It already
shows the green S-symbol for the S-Bahn (urban trains), although the S-Bahn is
not in service yet. Seen on 15 August 2001.

Detail view of the pedestrian bridge in the station of Königsdorf on the
upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 15 August 2001. The elevator goes down to the platform, so it is
labelled "To the trains". Parking places are on both sides of the line, but on
the south side is no access for people in wheelchairs. The Aachener
Straße on the left, which is the main street of Königsdorf, is
nearly on the same level as the bridge.

The new platform and the old station building in the station of Königsdorf
on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 15 August 2001. In the past there was a platform next to the building,
but in the future the space in front of it will be used for the highspeed
tracks which have no platforms. Königsdorf will be served by the S-Bahn
(urban trains) running on the tracks next to the new platform. The front side
of the building follows the alignment of the wall further left, so the
highspeed tracks will run very closely to it.

The western end of the station at Königsdorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 29 December 2001. On the left is the platform between the tracks for
the S-Bahn (urban trains). On the right is the area for the highspeed tracks,
the southern one is already assembled. As the whole traffic will run on them
for some months, temporary platforms are needed for the trains that stop here.
The end of the southern temporary platform can be seen. Some
Ks
signals are standing at the end of the platform area. At the S-Bahn track
is a block signal, at the highspeed track is a distant signal repeater. Behind
the block signal is a distant signal for the other direction, seen from the
back.

only some girders are to be seen in front of the old station building where the
northern platform will be built. In the background is the pedestrian bridge
which will also be used to cross the tracks when the temporary platforms are in
service. The northern platform will be accessed from the area around the
building, the southern access will cross the (then unused) track between the
temporary and the non-temporary platform.

The station of Königsdorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west from the pedestrian bridge on 29 December 2001. On
the left is the platform between the tracks for the S-Bahn (urban trains). On
the right is the area for the highspeed tracks, the southern one is already
assembled. As the whole traffic will run on them for some months, temporary
platforms are needed for the trains that stop here. The southern platform is
partially finished, while only some girders are to be seen in front of the old
station building where the northern platform will be built. It seems that the
acoustic walls will not be continued in front of the building, so it will be
possible to make nice pictures of the new highspeed trains in front of the old
building.

The eastern end of the station at Königsdorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 29 December 2001. On the right is the platform between the tracks for
the S-Bahn (urban trains). The visible part around the small buildings seems to
be temporary, the rest of the platform looks much better. On the left is the
area for the highspeed tracks. The southern one is already assembled
everywhere, the northern one only in the background where also both tracks seem
to be finally aligned. As the whole traffic will run on them for some months,
temporary platforms are needed for the trains that stop here. The end of the
southern temporary platform can be seen. Some
Ks
signals are standing at the end of the platform area. At the S-Bahn track
is a block signal, at the highspeed track is a distant signal repeater.

The station of Königsdorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west from the pedestrian bridge on 1 February 2002. On the
left is the platform between the tracks for the S-Bahn (urban trains). On the
right the new highspeed tracks seem to be finished. As the whole traffic will
run on them for some months, they were fitted with temporary platforms for the
trains that stop here.

The station of Königsdorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the western end on 15 February 2003. The two tracks next to the
platform on the right are used by the S-Bahn (urban trains), these are the only
trains stopping here. All other trains use the two tracks on the left. They
will be equipped with LZB (Linienzugbeeinflussung) to be used at speeds up to
250 km/h. As visible in the southern track, the cables are already laid, but
not yet in service. The narrow "platform" in front of the old station building
is of course not accessible. The pedestrian bridge in the background allows to
access the platform from both sides of the line.

The old station building of Königsdorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains) on 15 February 2003. The
two visible tracks are the highspeed tracks which will be used at speeds up to
250 km/h in the future. The "platform" in front of the building is to far away
from the track to access the train (which does not stop here anyway), and of
course it is not accessible.

View onto the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
looking towards east from the pedestrian bridge at the station of
Königsdorf on 15 August 2001. This view shows the end of the platform with
a temporary section built around some small transformer stations. On the right
is a parking place, on the left a part of the elevator to the platform is
visible.

the platform is located. Under the bridge the old station building is visible.

The buttons for the elevator in the station of Königsdorf on the
upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 15 August 2001. The lower button is for people in wheelchairs. Both
buttons are equipped with Braille-letters, so it is useable for blind people,
people in wheelchairs and even blind people in wheelchairs. The red inscription
says "Do not use elevator in case of fire", this makes sense for elevators in
houses, but here isn't much that could burn apart from the elevator itself (and
i think there isn't anyone who would use a burning elevator, even if there is
no inscription).

The new platform with it's roof and the pedestrian bridge in the station of
Königsdorf on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 15 August 2001. The parking place on the right is reachable only by
stairs. From another angle of view it seems that the bridge is prepared for a
second elevator at this place, but nothing was done about it by now.
