The temporary platform at Köln (Cologne) West, seen on 23 May 2004. Because of construction works near the main station a lot of trains had to be diverted that weekend. Those from here to the main station had to use the so-called Schlundgleis at Nippes junction, which is not reachable from the passenger tracks (which are on the far left, behind the ballast cars). Instead of the normal platform, they stopped at this temporary platform at the other side of the station area. Note that these tracks here have group exit signals (Gruppenausfahrsignale), there is a shunting signal for each track and one main signal (should be the one in the background) for the whole group. This kind of signalling is rarely used for passenger trains. The rightmost track was covered by the platform, of course it will not be used.
