Goodbye Metropolitan!
Metropolitan was a luxurious, experimental train between Cologne and
Hamburg. It wasn't very succesfull, so the service was terminated
on 11 December 2004. In this pic, one of the Metropolitan trains
leaves Cologne main station (Koeln Hauptbahnhof) empty, after having
arrived on its very last run from Hamburg. It is pushed by one of the
special Metropolitan locomotives BR 101.

Waiting for the regional-express on perron 4 in Köln Hbf. Short before its arrival an ICE entered the track and stoped. "Nice B... S..., now I have to change the perron, cause the track on the other side is occupied too and my RE is viewable at horizon yet" I thought. "Come on, anounce which perron..." but the voice into the perron-speakers kept silent. Meanwhile the RE had stoped at a red semaphore. Silence. RE started slowly. "WHICH PERRON?". RE crawled. "Hmm, how look the switches?". Big eyes, look back - yes ICE is still there. "At perron 4 pay attention the RE to Hamm enters." Very great eyes, never seen such a situation before: Two absolutely independent trains at one track. An ICE 3 EMU and RE 1 with DB 146 009 at track 4 in Cologne main-station on 16th of February 2008. Both bound for Düsseldorf. Photo ©Arnim v. Herff |
