The station of Köln-Deutz seen on 29 June 2002. This is track 12, one of
the two tracks passing through under the rest of the station. The other is
track 11 on the left. While the other tracks run to the Hohenzollern bridge,
this part of the station allows trains to stay on the right side of the Rhine.
This is not much used by now, but in the future a lot of ICE's coming from
Düsseldorf and continuing to Frankfurt on the new highspeed line will stop
here. For this reason this part of the station is being rebuilt. Note the very
low catenary and the third rail to keep derailed trains on the track.
