The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the bridge at the eastern end on 1 February 2002. In the background
the two highspeed tracks are finished, but here the connection between the old
mainline and the line to Bergheim is still in this area. However, the catenary
for the new tracks is already assembled. On the right is a part of the new
track 8, connecting the building site east of the station with the old tracks.

(ABS 4)
seen on 1 February 2002. Behind track 6 is the new platform with the staircase
in the center and the opening for the elevator on the left. Track 7 is covered
by the platform, between it and the end of the pedestrian tunnel is the space
for track 8. The bridge in the background will carry the northwestern leg of
the track triangle. At the top a part of the temporary pedestrian bridge is
visible.

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen on 1 February 2002. This is the northwestern leg of the track triangle.
When it will be rebuilt, it will allow direct connections from Düren to
Bergheim, but i think they will not be served in regular traffic. Currently the
track ends at the buffer stop on the right. There had been a second track
behind the platform, but it was given up. A new platform will be built in front
of the track. The new bridge also forms an access for cars to the inside of the
track triangle, where a parking place will be built.

seen on 1 February 2002. On the right is the entrance of the new pedestrian
tunnel. Between it and track 7 is still space for track 8, which is not yet
built. At the platform for track 6 the staircase on the left and the opening
for the elevator on the right are visible.

(ABS 4)
seen on 1 February 2002. This is the end of the platform track for the trains
coming from Bergheim. As they come in as train movements, the buffer stop is
equipped with an Sh2. The new bridge will carry a connection to the mainline,
but as far as i know this will not be used in regular traffic. In the
background is RE 10725 (Düren-Münster), pushed by a class 111 with a
red stripe (this is quite rare).

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the temporary pedestrian bridge on 26 March
2002. The new part of the station with the highspeed tracks in the middle is in
use. The area on the right, where the old line was, is prepared for the two
tracks for the S-Bahn (urban trains).

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards south from the temporary pedestrian bridge on 26 March
2002. In the middle of the picture are the highspeed tracks between the two
platform tracks. In front of the building, where the old line was, the ground
is broken up to finish the new pedestrian tunnel that is already present under
the new tracks. Then the tracks for the S-Bahn (urban trains) will be built in
this area.

The western end of the station at Horrem on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the platform of track 6 on 26 March 2002. The end of the platform is
not yet finished. The "10" at the signal means that the train can pass the
switches leading into the highspeed track with 100 km/h.

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the temporary pedestrian bridge on 21 April
2002. In the area where the old main line was located, the platforms for the
S-Bahn (urban trains) will be built. Note the shape of the platform edges, I
think this shall keep people away from crossing the tracks.

The eastern end of the station at Horrem on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the platform of track 3 on 21 April 2002. Track 3 is still connected
to track 4 with a temporary switch, so the signal "32 ZS3" gives a speed limit
of 40 km/h.

(ABS 4)
with the eastern exit of Horrem in the foreground seen looking towards east on
20 May 2002. On the left are the highspeed tracks with the entrance to track 7
and 8 at the edge of the picture. Three tracks will be built in the area on the
right. Next to the highspeed tracks, track 3 (already present as a short
platform track in the station) will be extended as a siding for freight trains.
The switches and the exit signal can be seen in the background. The two tracks
for the S-Bahn (urban trains) will be connected to the tracks visible behind
the signal.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west from the pedestrian bridge on 15 June 2002. The
bridge in the picture will carry track 10 and it's platform (on this side of
the track). By now track 10 is cut off on the right, the platform is at the
other side. The street under the bridge will be the access to the new parking
place inside the station.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west from the pedestrian bridge on 25 July 2002. The new
pedestrian tunnel is just being covered with sand. In the middle of the picture
the tracks 1 and 2 for the S-Bahn (urban trains) will be built. Two staircases
and two elevators are visible in this area. On the left they will lead to the
platform of track 1 next to the station building, on the right they will
connect the tunnel with the platform between track 2 and 3.

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the platform of track 3 on 31 July 2002. By now
track 3 joins track 4 at a temporary switch, later it will use the switch
behind that. The eastern extension of track 3 (intended as a siding for freight
trains) is under construction. A switch will be inserted into track 3 allowing
either to go to track 4 or into the siding. On the right are the first parts of
track 2, the northern track for the S-Bahn (urban trains), a switch connecting
it to track 1 is visible. There is also a connection to track 3 more in the
background, but it might be temporary.

(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east from the platform of track 3 on 18 August 2002. The
connection to the eastern part of the track (without platform) and to track 4
is now finished. The exit route for the passenger train that will arrive soon
is leading through the eastern part, as there where works going on in track 4.

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards east on 10 September 2002. The tracks 1 and 2 for the
S-Bahn (urban trains) are under construction in the platform area. Very
interesting is the signal ZS3 on the left. It announces the signal P3 far in
the background, marked with a red circle in the picture. As P3 shows Hp0
(stop), ZS3 shows Ks2 (expect stop) together with a white light which informs
about the reduced distance. The "4" says that there is a speed restriction of
40 km/h. When P3 turns green, this will change to an "8" for 80 km/h, the same
speed restriction that will be given at P3 then.

The station of Horrem on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards west from the pedestrian bridge on 6 October 2002. The
stairs leading to track 10 are finished, but the platform (and the track) on
the bridge is still missing. Two sockets for ticket machines were installed at
the bottom. On the left is the entrance of the pedestrian tunnel that will lead
to the tracks 1, 2, 3 and 6 and the station building. Next to the platform-less
track 7 (visible in the upper left corner) seems to be space for another track
above the tunnel.

Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards south on 9 November 2002. The picture was taken from the
point where the staircase to track 6 is. On the left the staircase to track 2
and 3 is visible. The staircase to track 1 at the end of the tunnel is on the
right. Construction works are still going on, mainly on the three elevators
which are placed facing the stairs.

This sign at the catenary marks the border of the working area at a new track.
Some meters further on are the insulators that seperate the working area (with
no voltage) from the area with high voltage. Seen at Horrem (on Cologne-Aachen)
on 1 February 2002.
