The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen on 5 August 2001. The right track will be used for the S-Bahn (urban
trains), the new platform is under construction. The track will be led along
the platform in the future, by now it has to take this way due to the works on
the pedestrian tunnel.

The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen looking towards north on 6 November 2001. In the foreground is track 3 for
the trains towards Cologne. Behind it is the area where track 2, the straight
track towards Cologne, was removed. Track 1 is still in it's old place in this
area. The gap between the next two platforms used to contain the tracks 17, 18
and 19 which ended at a turntable east of the station building. Behind are the
tracks 22 and 23 for the trains to Jülich and some tracks for freight
trains.

The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen on 27 November 2001. In the foreground is the old track 5 with the low
platform and the temporary bridge. At the left edge is the switch of the next
track, which has to take this way because of the works on the pedestrian
tunnel. At the end of the new platform a staircase and an elevator are being
built. The tracks behind the new platform are under construction.

(ABS 4)
seen on 5 August 2001. The second track on the right will be used for the
S-Bahn (urban trains) while the third one, leading to the other side of the new
platform, is built for the Euregiobahn to Aachen/Mönchengladbach.

The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen on 5 August 2001. At this new platform the S-Bahn (urban trains) to
Cologne/Bonn and the Euregiobahn to Aachen/Mönchengladbach will meet,
making the neccessary changing for throughgoing passengers as easy as possible.
Note the step in the lower part, the left track will be placed higher than the
right because the class 423 EMUs of the S-Bahn (right track) require 96 cm
platform height above the rails while the Talent DMUs of the Euregiobahn (left
track) require 76 cm for a stepless entrance.

The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen on 6 November 2001. This is the southern part of the eastern end. In the
foreground is track 5, which will be renumbered to track 4 in the future, it
will be used for the trains to Münster as far as i know by now. On the
right follows track 6, which will be used for the S-Bahn (urban trains). The

The station of Düren at the end of the upgraded line from Cologne
(ABS 4)
seen on 6 November 2001. This is the northern part of the eastern end. The
track on the right is track 3. It used to be a siding track next to the
platform, connected to track 2, the straight track leading towards Cologne. Now
track 2 is removed, it's signal is marked as invalid by a white cross. Track 1
next to it, which was the straight track for the other direction, was shifted
and is visible at the left edge. A temporary level crossing was installed for
the construction works in the area between the tracks. All trains to Cologne
use track 3 and continue over the new track for the S-Bahn (urban trains) in
the background. Near the signal is an Lf1 (the triangle with the 8) that
announces (or, in this case, repeats) a temporary speed restriction to 80 km/h.
The Lf2 (with the A) marks the beginning of the restriction.
