The level crossing in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen from west on 23 August 2001. On the right side is the old line. The highspeed tracks on the left are under construction. The new tunnel (not visible) was built under the highspeed tracks, but to finish it the old line has to be taken out of service. For this time the highspeed tracks will be used together with the level crossing (at normal speed). On the right is the old station building, on the left is the signalbox. Behind the level crossing is a temporary platform between the tracks.

The eastern part of the station in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen from the western access to the temporary platform on 8 December 2001. Before the new tracks go into service, another temporary platform will be built on the left. The platform on the right will then be used for trains towards Cologne. As it is between a distant signal and a main signal, a distant signal repeater is needed. The platform at the old track is in front of the distant signal, so the repeater is already installed at the new track. It is connected with the signalbox and indicates the aspects of the main signal.

The station of Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen looking towards east along the south side on 20 April 2002. On the left is the old platform next to track 1, the last remaining old track. Note that this side also has a normal platform edge, maybe there was a passenger track at this side of the platform in the far past. In this case the platform must have been divided for the exit of this track towards Cologne near the old station building in the background. On the right the southern platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains) is built. I think the shape of the platform edge shall keep people away from crossing the tracks.

The new wall on the left will probably be the backside of the northern platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains), it's tracks will use the area of the old track and the old platform. Behind the wall are the new highspeed tracks, of which the northern one is already in service. In the background is the old signalbox at the level crossing.

While the part of the new tunnel under the highspeed tracks on the left is already finished, work is still going on at the part under the area for the S-Bahn (urban trains). On the right the tunnel continues some meters where no tracks will be built, maybe a pedestrain way will run next to the rails crossing the street. On the left the eastern end of the northern platform is under construction. The walls for the elevator are visible, the staircase is not in the picture.

The southern highspeed track is nearly invisible after a lot of ballast was put onto it. The northern new track has still only one rail, but I'm shure the other one will be added later.

Inside the tunnel, the access to the platform is visible on the left. The most southern part of the tunnel, which spans a bit wider, seems to be intended for some kind of pedestrian way.

On the right is the new road tunnel, which has two parts to pass under the S-Bahn (urban trains) tracks in the foreground and the highspeed tracks in the background. Also the eastern ends of the new platforms for the S-Bahn will be located here. The northern one will be accessed through the gap between the tunnel parts, while the stairs under construction on the left will lead to the southern platform.

In the tunnel is the wall that will seperate the lower street (in the foreground) from the higher pedestrian way. The stairs connect the way with the southern platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains). For the northern platform there is another staircase of which only the upper end is visible. The highspeed tracks are behind the northern platform.

In the new tunnel under the tracks there is a pedestrian way on the left and a street on the right. The stairs on the left connect the pedestrian way with the southern platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains). The visible platform roof belongs to the northern platform which is accessed from inside the tunnel.

The two holes in the floor and the ceiling indicate where the elevator will be built. East of the platform, the tunnel has an opening between the S-Bahn line and the highspeed line, this can be seen at the top.

The station of Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen from the southern platform for the S-Bahn (urban trains) on 18 February 2003. There is a staircase and an elevator at the end of the northern platform. The southern one has no elevator because there is enough space to build a ramp. Near the right edge of the picture the old signalbox can be seen. The hole appearing below it from this viewpoint belongs to the new tunnel, which contains a street and a pedestrian way with access to the platforms.

Track 2 was equipped with a temporary platform to allow the old platform west of the level crossing to be removed. Left of the platform the highspeed tracks are under construction.

A temporary level crossing as access to the temporary platform in the Station of Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen from the north side on 23 August 2001. It is not technically secured, as the highspeed tracks are still under construction and only used by work trains at very low speed.

This old sign in the station of Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) says "Border of the private railway access". There used to be a private access but i think it will not be restored. Picture taken on 23 August 2001.
