Plasser & Theurer 08-475 Unimat 4S ballast tamper of Kölngleis working in the western switch area of the new overtaking station Dorsfeld (on Cologne-Aachen) on 8 August 2001. While the main tamping device is hidden behind the workers, some other interesting things can be seen. Note the thing with the two wheels that is hung to the operator cab, i think this is intended to follow the other rail of a switch to determine it's position. Left to the cab is another device that is working on the trackbed and a wheelset that might be for measuring purposes. I'm not an engineer, but i can imagine that tamping a switch is quite complicated.
