VT 22 at Bayerisch Eisenstein
This is Bayerisch Eisenstein, the last station on the German Federal Railways before the Czech border. In the front you can see a "Waldbahn" VT22 DMU, that runs from Plattling to Bayerisch Eisenstein, mostly on single track. This train has an on-board sanitation facility and a wheelchair lift. Unfortunately these trains do not go further on to Klatovy although they could. For that, there are the Czech DMUs and diesel locomotives with open seating or compartments (second class might have eight seats per compartment!). This photo was taken 13 July 1997, long before the Czech Republic became a member of the European Union. You can barely make out the Czech border at Zelezna Ruda.
