Ludwigs-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft No. 8, built 1835, rebuilt 1838 and 1846, in service until 1877. This is the last remaining vehicle of the first German steam railway, it has three compartments with padded benches, glass windows and oil lights. Rumours that King Ludwig I. used this car in 1836 saved it from scrap; two individuals purchased it for the Germanic National Museum. Since 1925 it is in the Verkehrsmuseum Nürnberg. 2011-02-02. |

Salon car of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, built 1860 for King
Maximilian II by Klett and rebuilt 1868 to 1870 with very
expensive interior in gold, silk and marble, designed by
Franz and Rudolf Seitz inspired by the castle of Versailles. The royal train was extended to eight cars until 1876, but not much is known about official travels of the royal court with the train; for safety reasons an "incognito train" was commissioned in 1876. Since the end of the monarchy the train is in the museum. Verkehrsmuseum Nürnberg. 2011-02-02. |
