Diesel unit VT 3, built 1928 by Sächsische Waggonfabrik Werdau as an experimental unit with 4-cylinder gasoline engines, rebuilt 1935 with two 8-cylinder diesel engines KHD A8/714 (113 kW each) and sold to DEBG (T 279). It was used on various DEBG and SWEG lines until 1983. The front ends were rebuilt in 1961, increasing the length from 13.40 to 13.92 m. The unit has 40 seats and reaches a speed of 70 km/h, which was sufficient for most branch lines. According to staff this is the oldest operational diesel unit in Germany. On the left you see a thunderbox car (Donnerbüchse) in restoration, probably Ci 85530. Kandern, 2019-06-23.
