Berlin-Dresden Railway construction site, Weinböhla Construction site of the Berlin-Dresden Railway at Weinböhla. Don't know what they are rebuilding exactly, but they are clearing many grade-crossings to enable high-speed traffic up to 200 km/h. It seems that the tracks will be lowered down. The route is closed until December 2010, trains from/to Berlin are bypassed via the Leipzig-Dresden line. In the background you can see the old catenary masts from 1979. This is the flyover that was used to change between left-hand traffic (in
Belgium) and right-hand traffic (in Germany) on the line Aachen-Liège,
seen looking towards Aachen on 10 July 2007. It is located between the
Buschtunnel (which is just out of sight in the background due to the curve) and
the border. In the course of the renovation of the tunnel the aligment is
adjusted for a higher speed in this area, and the flyover will be removed. The
upper track is already gone, it used to run at the left edge of the picture. The
lower track can be seen in the background where it leaves the flyover, it bears
the whole traffic at this time. In the future left-hand traffic will be extended
to Aachen Hbf. The new catenary poles indicate that two new tracks will pass on
the right. The catenary in this area is of a German type, but it has double
contact wires and is operated at 3 kV DC as usual in Belgium. In the background
the temporary bridge at the Entenpfuhler Weg is visible, the bridge there has to
be reconstructed due to the new alignment.

Gauge changing facility for freight cars, demonstrated at Innotrans
1998 in Berlin. The principle is derived from a system that the DR
developed in the '80s for through train to the Soviet Union, but back
then, Poland didn't want to do away with the jobs of the reloading workers
at the border. With this system (currently tested by DB Cargo AG),
gauge-changing bogies can be added under all sorts of freight cars.
