View onto the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
looking towards west from Königsdorf on 15 August 2001. The tracks for the
S-Bahn (urban trains) on the left are finished and by this time used for all
trains, on the right the first ballast layer for the highspeed tracks is
visible. On both sides there are some interesting catenary masts attached
directly to the walls.

eastern end of Königsdorf on 15 August 2001. The tracks for the S-Bahn
(urban trains) on the right are finished and by this time used for all trains.
The highspeed tracks are under construction, there is a temporary connection to
the S-Bahn and a temporary connection between the tracks in the background.

The end of a backbone span seen in Königsdorf (on Cologne-Aachen) on 1
February 2002. On the right, the tensioning assemblies fitted to the mast are
placed behind eachother instead of side by side, as there is not much space
between the tracks. On the left, where the tensioning assemblies are attached
to the wall, flat weights instead of round ones are used to save space.

The end of a backbone span seen in Königsdorf (on Cologne-Aachen) on 16
February 2002. On the right, the tensioning assemblies fitted to the mast are
placed behind eachother instead of side by side, as there is not much space
between the tracks. On the left, where the tensioning assemblies are attached
to the wall, flat weights instead of round ones are used. Compared to an older
Picture (which might be above this), they were fitted with guiding rails and
covers at the bottom.
