Tracks of the Höllentalbahn where they join the mainline near the south entrance of Freiburg (Breisgau) Hbf. This line is double track between Freiburg-Wiehre and Freiburg Hbf. Most of the overhead masts are still from pre-war times, with the characteristic curved brackets. Freiburg (Breisgau), 2003-12-29. |

A pair of catenary masts seen in Horrem (on Cologne-Aachen) on 16 December
2001. They have double brackets, as they are part of a five-field backbone
span. This backbone span is also used as electrical seperation, so the brackets
have to be insulated against eachother. This might be the reason for the
unusual shape of the side clip, which has to keep some distance to the other
contact wire. One bracket in the background still carries a pulley that was
used to pull the contact wire into place.

Special catenary configuration above a double-slip switch with outside tongues
(also known as "Baseler" type) seen at the western end of Köln Ehrenfeld
Gbf on 31 July 2002. The two contact wires are spread to ensure that they cover
every possible route the train (and the pantograph) can take.

Catenary works near Düren (on Cologne-Aachen) on 23 February 2003. The
track was removed and built up new for a better alignment, so the brackets had
to be replaced by longer ones. The lower arm (with the side clip) was just
detached and will be brought down now. The train visible below spreads ballast
onto the new track.

the catenary is not attached at this mast at this time, although the skylift
holds it aside.
