The Herrenstraße bridge in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the north side on 13 September 2001. In the background is the old
part with a middle pillar. A bit of it had to be broken up to build the new
bridge, but it was possible to keep both tracks in service during the works.
The new part in front will carry the two highspeed tracks, while the remaining
part of the old bridge provides enough space for the single track of the S-Bahn
(urban trains). Acoustic walls have just been installed on this side.

The upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen looking onto the Breitestraße bridge from southeast on 28 October
2001. Between the remains of the old pillars next to the track one of the main
girders is visible. In the past it could not be seen this way because it was
hided by other parts. Under the old bridge a new tunnel was built. Now the
ground is prepared for the new track of the S-Bahn (urban trains), it will pass
the old bridge on the south side. On the left you can see it's first ballast
layer, behind the excavator in the background the track is already assembled.
The exit signal of the old station (the building is behind the signal) will
soon be removed. On the left edge of the tunnel the bolts to fix the acoustic
walls are visible, on the north side the walls are already built.

View onto the new Breitestraße tunnel in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4),
15 July 2001. Above the tunnel, the old bridge is still in place, the green
handlebars can be seen. On the right side, a big new mast carries the catenary
while the installations for the tension are still attached to the old masts.

The bridge crossing the Kerpener Straße in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 25 March 2002. While the trains use the tracks on
the new bridge in the background, the old bridge is being broken down. The
pillars are in one line on the left, on the right the new bridge spans a wider
area. After the removal of the old bridge the road will be made wider. On the
place of the old bridge another new bridge will be built carrying the single
track of the S-Bahn (urban trains).

The Herrenstraße bridge in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 21 April 2002. The edge has been removed, I guess a
new edge with fixtures for the acoustic wall will be built soon. The track next
to this edge will be used for the S-Bahn (urban trains) in the future.

The bridge crossing the Kerpener Straße in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 21 April 2002. The old western pillar will be
reused for a narrower bridge for the single track of the S-Bahn (urban trains).
In the background is the new bridge with the two highspeed tracks.

The small tunnel crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
east of the Erfttalstraße near Sindorf seen from the south side on 20 May
2002. Under the highspeed tracks in the background the tunnel is already
finished. In the past, the old line passed in the foreground on a steel bridge.
While it is out of service, the tracks are removed here to build the new
tunnel. Soon an outer shell will be installed, then the room between them
(where the steel rods are already present) will be filled with concrete to form
the walls and the ceiling.

The bridge crossing the Kerpener Straße in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 30 May 2002. While the trains use the two highspeed
tracks in the background, the new bridge for the single track of the S-Bahn
(urban trains) is prepared. It is clearly visible that the western pillar
(left), reused from the old bridge, is wider than the bridge itself. The
eastern pillar was newly errected.

The bridge crossing the Kerpener Straße in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 5 July 2002. The southern new part of the bridge is
still in the position where it was built, it will be lowered later. The western
pillar clearly shows that the bridge was wider on this side in the past.

Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 20 July 2002. After it was lowered, the southern
part is now in it's final position.

The bridge crossing the Kerpener Straße in Sindorf on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 10 September 2002. The posts for the acoustic wall
on this side are in place. As the wall (that normally also serves as handlebar
on bridges) follows the tracks straightly, an additional handlebar is installed
on the wider western pillar.
