The bridge of the
upgraded
line Cologne-Düren which crosses the Hohlweg east of Buir seen from the
south side on 30 September 2006. As the S-Bahn (suburban railway) line is
currently extended from one to two tracks, also the bridge has to be extended.

The first narrow bridge crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from the north side on 23 August 2001. The old bridge which
crossed two tracks was removed long ago, now a new bridge is built that will
cross all four tracks.

(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from west on 23 August 2001. The old bridge which
crossed the two old tracks on the right was removed long ago, now a new bridge
is built that will also cross the two highspeed tracks which will be built on
the left. Note that there is no pillar in the middle and the pillars are some
meters away from the tracks, this should prevent that a derailed train destroys
the bridge like it happened in Eschede.

The second narrow bridge crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from west on 23 August 2001. The old bridge which crosses the
two old tracks is still in place, a temporary gangway for pedestrians and
bicycles crosses the building site for the highspeed tracks. In the background
a new bridge which will cross all four tracks is built.

(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from the south side on 23 August 2001. On the left is the old
bridge. It's connection to the north side was removed to make the building site
for the highspeed tracks free. The temporary gangway for pedestrians and
bicycles which connects the bridge to the north side now is nearly invisible
from this point. On the right a new bridge which will cross all four tracks is
built.

The second narrow bridge crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from west on 20 April 2002. The old bridge crossing only the
two old tracks is still in place, I guess it will be broken down when the
tracks are out of service for some months. Behind it is the new bridge crossing
all four tracks.

The third narrow bridge crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
west of Buir seen from east on 23 August 2001. The old bridge which crossed the
two old tracks was removed, the southern pillar is still visible. Beneath it
some preparations for the new bridge which will also cross the two highspeed
tracks are visible.

pillar of the old bridge, which crossed only the two old tracks. The new bridge
is not yet opened for public use, among other things the handlebars are still
missing.

The new street tunnel in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from west on 23 August 2001. The new highspeed tracks above the tunnel are
under construction. When they are in service, the old tracks on the right can
be removed to continue the tunnel. Then the old tracks will be rebuilt for the
S-Bahn (urban trains). The level crossing in the background will then be
removed, too.

The new tunnel in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from west on 8 December 2001. The highspeed tracks on it seem to be more
or less finished, also the catenary of the northern track is already present.
When the old tracks on the right are out of service, the tunnel can be
continued. After this the old level crossing in the background will be removed.
