Class 403+404.1+404.0+403 at Berlin-Spandau Johannesstift (Osthavelländische Eisenbahn AG). Three 4-car trains were built 1973 as prototypes for a new generation of Intercity trains for 200 km/h with all wheels powered. They could have served as prototypes for the high speed trains later known as ICE, but no larger series was ordered. The prototypes served as 1st class Intercity trains until 1979, but their capacity was too small for the new two-class system IC'79, so they were used only as special trains from then on, and rebuilt into the "Lufthansa Airport Express" in 1982, and used between the airports of Frankfurt (Main) and Düsseldorf until the Lufthansa gave up these trains. For a long time they stood unused in the DBAG works of Nürnberg, then the Prignitzer Eisenbahn bought the units - now they are stored on a siding of the OHE in Berlin. 2002-04-26. tbk
