One difference to class 403/406 is the LED display integrated in the door - which means the big oval window, which used to be typical for all ICE types, has been replaced by a smaller square door window. |

Class 407 units are now in regular service. 93 80 5 407 012-4 next to 91 80 6 120 133-4 in München Hbf on 2014-07-26. Class 120 pioneered 3-phase AC technology in mainline electric locomotives and was seen as the universal locomotive of the future but was used mostly for intercity trains throughout its career - first it was the only locomotive suitable for high speed lines before the arrival of the ICE and class 101, then came the split up of the locomotive fleet between Cargo, Regio and long distance passenger sectors. Meanwhile some have been adapted for Regio - and gradually we can see them as "old iron" as well. |
