ICE787_HH1.jpg (102194 bytes)

Hannover Hbf, 2001-03-26, 11:31. Two ICE 3 single-system sets (class 403), the ICE 787 from Hamburg and the ICE 867 from Bremen, are being coupled together and will continue as ICE 787 "Karl Adam" towards München. This is a regular operation - still, delays due to coupling problems do occur, and in worst case, the trains are operated separately to their destination (which requires an additional driver and one more timetable slot).

Hannover Hbf, 2001-03-26, 11:34. One of the pantographs of an ICE 3 (class 403, ICE 787 "Karl Adam"). You can see the "spoiler" installed to improve aerodynamics when the pantograph is lowered. When coupling two ICE 3 sets together, the first pantograph of the first unit and the second pantograph of the second unit is raised, so that the distance between two raised pantographs is maximized, to avoid contact problems on the second pantograph.

Hannover Hbf, 2001-03-26, 11:37. The ICE 787 (a double ICE 3 set) to München departed 8 minutes late and passes a DMU of class 612 as it leaves the station.
