Franken-Thüringen-Express. Würzburg Hbf, 2022-06-21. |
At the platform, the hamster's nose is in the sun, showing crash elements left and right to the coupler. Those are required for new trains, for better crashworthiness. The LED destination display is not readable on the photo of short exposure time because the lights are actually flickering. Aachen Hbf, 2013-08-01. |
The RE9 Rhein-Sieg-Express operates on the line Aachen - Köln - Siegen (forming a twice-hourly rhythm with RE1 on Aachen - Köln), until 2012 it was exclusively operated with double-deck trains, today some trains are composed of Talent 2 units in the versions RSX3, RSX4 and RSX5, with a floor height of 800 mm. Only two units of the version RSX5 exist (numbered 301 and 302) and they seem to operate coupled together on this line. The Bombardier Talent 2 "Hamster" is known for huge delays, while the first prototype was shown at InnoTrans in 2008, the first regular services started four years later in 2012 - three years later than planned.
