Until the Flughafen Fernbahnhof was constructed, trains were limited to the fully underground Flughafen Regionalbahnhof. Both are in use as of March 2006. Inside a DB 420 S-Bahn at Frankfurt am Main Hauptwache
View of the underground platforms at Frankfurt am Main Hauptwache. At Hauptwache, connections to the U-Bahn are possible. On the side platforms on the "same" level are the U6 and U7 to Heerstraße and Hausen, as well as Ostbahnhof (Frankfurt East Station) and Enkheim. On a level below are two other side platforms that serve the U1, U2 and U3 to Ginnheim, Bad Homburg-Gonzenheim, Oberursel-Hohemark in the north and west, and Frankfurt Südbahnhof (South station in the "Sachsenhausen" district). Further east is Konstablerwache where another connection is possible to U6 and U7, plus U4 to Bockenheimer Warte via Römer (City Hall) and Willy Brandt Platz and U5 to Hauptbahnhof or Preungesheim on a level above.
