DB. 420514 S-Bahn-Triebwagen (Rapid-transit railway motor coach) was the trailing unit of the 10:35 Munich Flughaven to Ostbanhof on Friday June 29, 2001. The train is seen standing at Neufahrn station and is working the S1 service. I had arrived at the airport early and decided to photograph some trains while waiting for my 15:00 hours flight back to Canada. For 9 DEMarks I purchased a 24 hour ticket valid in rings 5-16.

420 002-8, end car of one of three pre-series units of class
420, built 1970. For the S-Bahn systems of München,
Stuttgart, Frankfurt and the Ruhr area, these EMU-3 with all
wheels powered (but no gangways between cars) were developed.
In München it was necessary to improve local transport
for the Olympic games of 1972. The trains for München
originally had a special blue/grey livery.
