While 146 008-8 departs with RE 10425 to Münster, 145-CL 012 of the
Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln
(HGK) is waiting at Aachen West on 21 June
2002.

A very uncommon sight seen in Köln-Ehrenfeld on 11 October 2002. On the
left is RE 10023 (RE 1: Aachen-Bielefeld), headed by 146 008-8. On the right is
RE 10721 (RE 7: Düren-Münster) with a cab car in front. Normally the
RE 1 follows the RE 7 between Düren and Köln Hbf, then it continues
as the first one (to meet the RE 7 again in Hamm after taking different ways).
In this case the RE 7 was sent to the left track (obviously in Lövenich)
and the RE 1 caught up. In the moment the picture is taken, the RE 7 departs to
Köln Hbf, changing to the right track again at the exit of Ehrenfeld. The
RE 1 followed after the line was cleared.

146 008-8 at the rear end of RE 10018 (Bielefeld-Aachen) stopping in Horrem (on
Cologne-Aachen) on 19 October 2001. The black inscriptions beneath the white
ones say "160 km/h" (the topspeed), "4200 kW" (the power) and "5700 PS" (again
the power, given in horsepower).

Some inscriptions on the 146 008-8 seen in Horrem (on Cologne-Aachen) on 19
October 2001. On the left is the weight of the loco (in metric tons). The
numbers on the right are what is called "Bremsgewicht" ("brake weight"). It is
a more or less abstract number which tells something about the braking ability.
There are several modes in which the brakes can operate: G (from Güterzug
- freight train), P (Personenzug - passenger train) and R (Rapid - fast train).
The loco has an electric brake which can be used additionally (E). I guess
E160 relates to a speed of 160 km/h. The weights and the brake weights of all
vehicles of a train are added, the quotient of the sums must be in a certain
range which is given for each line and the speed of the train.

146 008-8 at the rear end of RE 10022 (Bielefeld-Aachen) stopping in Cologne on
22 September 2001. It is the first 146 in NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen, a state in
the west of Germany), used for the RE 1 line. The white inscriptions say "More
force!", "More power!" and "More in-time!". If you compare it to the class 145,
which was used on this line in the past, the first two statements are wrong,
the power is the same (4200 kW) and the tractive effort should be the same (300
kN), too. The main differences are the bigger destination indicators and the
higher topspeed (160 km/h to 140 km/h). There had been problems with the
magnetic rail brakes on the cars, so they were not allowed to be used. When
they can be used, the train can go with 160 km/h, so I hope the last statement
will become true.

146 009-6 heads RE 10031 (Aachen-Bielefeld) stopping in Düren (on
Cologne-Aachen) on 4 October 2001. It is the second 146 in NRW and does not
carry big inscriptions on the sidewalls like 146 008-8.

Someone apparently had a little fun with the ownership inscription on 146 009-6; correct would be "DB Regionalbahn Rhein-Ruhr" instead of "Rhein-Pur".
