227 locomotives of class 111 were built 1974 to 1984 as an improvement of class 110, originally for all types of passenger trains including express and intercity trains. Some of them used to be dedicated for S-Bahn trains. On the photo you see a train of line RE 4 "Wupper-Express" (from Dortmund - Hagen - Wuppertal - Düsseldorf - Mönchengladbach) come into Aachen Hauptbahnhof on 2013-08-01. One of many lines operated with double-deck cars (this one not fully air-conditioned yet).<p>
