Two Intercity trains meet in Köln Messe Deutz station, one with locomotive 101 139-4. Besides the ICE there are still a number of locomotive hauled daytime trains on routes not including high speed sections. Class 101 went into service from 1996 to replace the aging class 103. The first coach is an Apmz 119, a rare type built in the 1980s (first class open coach based on a second class type).
