2-axle container car 42 80 443 3 006-9 Lgnss577, a middle car
of the Windhoff Cargosprinter (container DMU) class 690. The middle cars
are fairly conventional, just equipped with signal cables and EBAS, an
electronic system for operating and controlling the brakes (the electronics
are in the grey box under the frame).

Windhoff Cargosprinters (container DMUs) class 690 in Knittelfeld, Austria.
These prototype units, built 1997, were designed to be a modern, economic
alternative for rail container transport without shunting delays, but all
attempts to establish regular services were unsuccessful. Each unit consists
of two 4-axle end power cars and three 2-axle middle cars. Between units,
the Z-AK coupler allows both automatic coupling and combination with regular
wagons.

The original owner, whose marks can still be seen on the wagons, recently
put these units up for sale, and I have heard that ÖBB Technical
Services (the business responsible for maintenance of rolling stock)
acquired them for internal use, but I have no other information - if
anyone knows more, please send me e-mail.

Talbot Talion class 691 and Windhoff Cargosprinter 690. They can
easily be distinguished by the shapes of their cabs. Windhoff
built a few similar units as departmental vehicles for Great
Britain and Australia, Bombardier (successor of Talbot) is not
offering the Talion any more even though there were no great
technical problems - it was just not economic to operate, compared
with classic freight trains.

Talbot Talion (container DMU) class 691 in Knittelfeld, Austria. Their
concept is similar to the Windhoff Cargosprinters, but the middle
cars are a triple articulated unit with bogies instead of 2-axle cars.

One of the brandnew Cargo-Sprinter built by Talbot and Windhoff was shown
on the occasion of the "Tag des Lokfuehrers" in Aachen West freight
station. This seems to be the Talbot version. The photo was taken on the
21st of September 1997.

The DB AG has ordered six prototype 5-car container DMUs called `STE'
or `CargoSprinter' by Talbot and Windhoff. This model shows the
arrangement of the Talbot train. The first bogie is driven by a
diesel engine, there is a second cab on the other end of the train.
