In the fifties, express DMUs class VT08 (later renumbered to 613)
were delivered to the DB. They had compartment cars and a dining-car,
some were even used for TEE when the VT11 were not yet all delivered.
This train was restored in original state, with a special DB logo
that was only used on the VT08. Braunschweig, 10th March 1996.

DB VT 08 museum train in Dresden-Neustadt. The long distance
diesel version of the "Eierkopf" railcars typical for the DB
of the 1950s. There was also a regional version (VT 12) and
two electric types for urban/regional trains (ET 30 and ET 56).

(very modern for their time) and the gangway between two cars
(which appears more streamlined than in today's ICEs).

Historic DMU DB VT 08 in Dresden-Neustadt. A detail of the
cab windows (seven windows arranged in a semi-circle). As
you can see, the cab is quite small because the engine
takes up a lot of space. I also heard that it is rather
noisy in the cab when the train is running. So these trains
were not all that popular among drivers. 2001-05-13.

Historic DMU DB VT 08 in Dresden-Neustadt. Frontal view.
The first VT 08 trains were built in 1952, the well-known
DB logo was introduced in 1953, so the VT 08 originally had
this unique "winged wheel" logo as it has been reproduced
on the preserved train. 2001-05-13.
