643 222-3 departs from Stolberg Hbf as RB 11574 (Stolberg-Altstadt -
Herzogenrath-August-Schmidt-Platz) on 18 March 2005. Note that the area below
the windscreen was "painted" white, obviously to enhance visibility. The second
car forms RB 11524 (Eschweiler-Weisweiler - Herzogenrath-August-Schmidt-Platz),
both trains were coupled together in the freight area of this station (in the
background, where another class 643.2 DMU is visible). The line from
Herzogenrath to Herzogenrath-Alt-Merkstein (formerly known as Merkstein-West)
and Herzogenrath-August-Schmidt-Platz (formerly known as Merkstein) was reopened
in December 2004 and is served once each hour by the trains which used to
terminate at Herzogenrath in the past.
