On the sidings of Dresden-Neustadt, we see a unit of class
642 on the left, two tilting units class 612 in the middle
and an old style train with two locomotives of class 202 on
the right. The 612 is not in service yet in this area.

DBRegio class 642 with "Dresden Airport" advertisement leaves Dresden-Neustadt
on 2001-03-11 towards the new station "Dresden Flughafen". This is a special
train for visitors of the new terminal; regular service will begin on
2001-03-25. Despite the big crowds, they only operated trains of one 642 unit,
which were quite insufficient to handle the big passenger loads.

inscription on both sides of the 1st class end is "Schneller ab Dresden",
the other end has "Flughafen" on the left side and "Airport" on the right

Two modern DMUs in Dresden Hbf on 2001-01-26. Both are built by Siemens,
both are styled by Alexander Neumeister. Class 642 (left) operates local
trains between Heidenau and Altenberg with a few through services from
Dresden Hbf, class 605 (right) will help speed up the neglected mainline
"Sachsen-Franken-Magistrale" to Nürnberg later this year.

Three faces of DBRegio trains in 2001, on the sidings of Dresden-Neustadt:
on the left you can see a DMU of class 642 by Siemens, in service since
May 2000 on various branch lines and on the line S2 to Dresden Airport, in
the middle two tilting units of class 612, in service since 2000 on fast
regional lines, and on the right a cab car type Bybdzf482,
rebuilt in 1995 from a Bmhe car built for the DR from 1978 on. 2001-07-15.

DBRegio class 642 DMU in Dresden Hbf - a common sight these days, though
no 642s operate through trains from Dresden Hbf (they are usually found
on Heidenau - Altenberg).

Dresden, Marienbrücke, 2001-10-10: a unit of class 642 of the airport
line S2 is rolling across the bridge. Part of the bridge is being
disassembled and will be replaced.

DBAG 642 with "Dresden Airport" advertisement comes out of the new
airport tunnel of Dresden and will continue as line S2 via Grenzstraße
- Klotzsche - Industriegelände to Dresden-Neustadt. As the signal on
the right shows, trains entering the tunnel are restricted to 40 km/h.
The road next to the track is not public, but has only been built for
tunnel maintenance and emergency evacuation. 2001-03-31.

DBAG 642 with "Dresden Airport" advertisement leaves Dresden-Grenzstraße and
will in a few seconds enter the airport tunnel. The station of Dresden-Grenzstraße
(between Klotzsche and the airport) has been completely changed while the line was
closed, it is currently a one-track stop, but a second platform is being built.

View on the 4-track "Marienbrücke" across the Elbe river in Dresden,
seen from the north side. A DMU of class 642 with airport advertisement
is just rolling across the bridge towards the station Dresden-Neustadt.
The steel construction of this bridge is worn out and will soon be
replaced with a new concrete bridge (on the original pillars) in the
same overall shape. 2001-07-29

over the Marienbrücke across the river Elbe near the Yenidze
in the morning of 2001-06-27. Due to the upcoming bridge
repairs, most trains of this line operate from Dresden-Neustadt.
