Lausanne Ouchy station
Lausanne Ouchy station. A rack rail used to go up this line to Montriond, Gare CFF and Flon (from Gare to Flon complemented by a shuttle service). Since this picture was taken in 2000, the original line was demolished, and will be replaced by a system similar to the Paris Metro, rumoured to be MP-89 rolling stock. A fascinating railway in the middle of a Swiss city - the standard-gauge rack line linking Lausanne Ouchy (station for the lake port) with the town centre and SBB station. One of the trains is seen here at Ouchy in late August 2003.
