fonatschen.jpg (69084 bytes)

Natschen, Switzerland, August 2001.
A section of the ABT racked track on the FO Oberalp pass route, in the steep descent from Natschen to Andermatt. In the backgroud, Andermatt station with the depot. From Andermatt the line goes on to the Furka route.

forack.jpg (76614 bytes)

Oberalppass, Switzerland, August 2001.
This is the entrance of a rack section, system ABT, on the FO narrow gauge route between Oberalppass and Natschen. To ease the insertion, the first teeth on the rack are rounded, lower, more spaced, and the beginning of the rack is mobile (a round spring, barely visible in the photo, keeps the insertion rack up).

mgb_catenary1.jpg (123881 bytes)

mgb (FO) line between Sedrun and Oberalppass. The catenary is strictly vertical even in curves, which results in a great number of masts to keep it in the range of the narrow pantographs. Between each two supports is a pulloff mast.

mgb_panorama1.jpg (141009 bytes)

This is the view when descending on the matterhorn gotthard bahn (ex Furka-Oberalp-Bahn) from Oberalppass (2033 m) to Andermatt (1436 m). The photo was taken near Nätschen (1843 m). Another curve of the same line can be seen below, and down in the valley you see Andermatt. The Gotthard pass road goes from there to the left, and the line to Realp (Furka tunnel and DFB museum line to Furkapass - Gletsch) continues straight ahead.
