Steam_in_Bulgaria Gorna_Oryahovica_Locomotive_Depot_2. Preserved 0-4-0T inside the depot. Bulgarian locomotive number unknown, but the locomotives builder was Henschel (11711.1912). 3 October 2016 Roger Griffiths. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com |
Steam_in_Bulgaria Gorna_Oryahovica_Locomotive_Depot_5. The locomotive stored inside Gorna shed is the now unique, 3-cylinder 4-10-0, 11.10, the only survivor of a class of seventeen, delivered between 1941 and 1943, by Henschel and Borsig. The Class 11 shared the same boiler design and other components, with the Class 03, 4-8-2 and it was admitted by Gornas steam loco crew, that 11.10 had been stripped of some parts to get 03.12 running again and the Class 11s tender today runs behind Pacific 05.01! Many enthusiasts around the world would very much like to see 11.10 run again, but although the boiler was described as OK, but in need of a major overhaul, with so many other parts missing, the cost would be enormous. It is therefore, unlikely to happen soon, if ever - a great pity. 3 October 2016 Roger Griffiths. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com |

Sofia_Locomotive_Depot_7. 0-8-2T, 48.04. This engine is from a class of six, the first three being built in 1930 by Hanomag, for the Pernik coal mine. Purchased in 1931, three more (48.04 48.06) were built in 1949, by BDZ. Thus, 48.04 is today, the only remaining steam locomotive built in Bulgaria. 7 October 2016 Roger Griffiths. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com |
Sofia_Locomotive_Depot_9. One gets the impression that this set-up beside Sofia depot yard, was intended to be some form of memorial. But 0-10-0T, 49.24 (Berliner Maschinenbau, 1917), some wagons and a water column, appear to be - disappearing! 7 October 2016 Roger Griffiths. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com |

Locomotive 19.25 ("HANOMAG" F.N 7892/1916) is one of the most typical for Bulgaria steam locomotives. Between 1913 and 1918 they have been delivered 70 of them by firm "HANOMAG"- Germany operating with passenger and cargo trains. Special feature for these machines are inclined steam cylinders. It is for easier overcoming of snow drifts in winter, which is snowy and cold in Bulgaria. Kaloyanovetz 09.06.2001

Locomotive 20.06 ("SKODA" F.N 1024/1939) is one of the accidentally fallen in Bulgaria 8 locos made in "SKODA" factories -Czechoslovakia for Mandjuriya railways. Their design is unique for Bulgarian State Railways and is completely different from the designs of the rest of the steam locomotives in Europe. The locomotives model 20 have been worked until 1973 in Plovdiv, Bourgas and Simeonovgrad depots and operated with cargo and local passenger trains.
