Shunting operations in Essen ended shortly after this picture was taken.
Most freight installations have been abondoned since then.

This is the very last/first station in Belgian territory. Pic looks South, towards Antwerp and Brussels. On can notice L-2762 (Antwerpen Centraal--->Roosendaal), nearing on the Northbound track. Essen. 18th December 2005.

Pic looks South, towards the station building and Antwerp. It was made from the level-crossing with Grensstraat, which, as implied in its name, actually marks the Dutch-Belgian border at this stage... Essen. 18th December 2005.
