12 July 2001, Brussels, Belgium Inside an IC train to Luxemburg. Inside this 3-coach EMU there are two second class coaches and one first class coach. One of the second class coaches has a small smoking part separated by glass panels. Although one does well know that this is no hindrance to the smoke, I suspect that it is the air conditioning which distributes the smoke all over the entire coach. In the end I had to choose the other coach entirely allocated to non-smoking passengers.

2 August 2002, between Lille and Kortrijk (Rijsel and Courtrai), France-Belgium Inside view of a second class coach of an AM96. Aligning seats with windows has become rocket science in the last decade or so, and here one can see a good example where at least a window is available for half the space in between the seat backs.

2 August 2002, between Lille and Kortrijk (Rijsel and Courtrai), France-Belgium Inside view of the ceiling in a second class coach of an AM96. This coach has a small smoking area at one end, not really well separated by some glass panels from the rest of the coach. I wonder whether the stripes are smoke residues, because I could not see such in a non-smoker coach. But they spread over the entire ceiling in this very coach.

2 August 2002, between Lille and Kortrijk (Rijsel and Courtrai), France-Belgium Inside view of the ceiling in a second class coach of an AM96. This coach is completely non-smoker and lacks the stripes that were present in an adjacent coach that featured a small smoking area.
