Vienna Tram Depot Betriebsbahnhof Währing (Austria)
1st of May celebration: Tram staff in their uniforms. Three decorated motor trams. Left: line 41 to Pötzleinsdorf. Middle: line E2 to Praterstern über Getreidemarkt. Right: sign not readable, most likely line F. Decorated building of the depot. Notice the red flags, the inscriptions [Hoch 1. Mai 1927 - A Cheer for the 1st of May, Sieg - Victory, Ruck nach links - Jolt to the Left) and the picture of Karl Marx in the middle.
Traditionally, Vienna's tram did not run the morning of the 1st of May to allow for demonstrations. The first trams of each route were decorated and they left the depots around noon. (Morning service on the 1st of May was introduced not until the 1990s.) Regretfully, this depot is now a supermarket.
I inherited this picture from my father, who is on the photograph.
