Westbahn, upper floor of an end car. Here the seats are arranged in groups
of four around fixed tables. One of these cars is marked as
"Westclub" where each passenger can use two seats and gets a free drink
for (currently) 5 eur surcharge. The other is open for a regular fare,
with identical interior.

Westbahn, upper floor of an end car. Above the doors, the door mechanism
takes up so much space that the table at the end of the room only has
two seats. Also, the window is very small, perhaps for structural
reasons.

Westbahn, upper floor of an end car. Above the doors, the door mechanism
takes up so much space that there is only space for a single seat. Also,
the window is very small, perhaps for structural reasons. This means, no
view out of the window from this seat.

Westbahn, upper floor of an end car. Screens announce the arrival time
for the next stations. Strangely the last station is listed as
"Salzburg-Freil." which does not exist - the real name of the station
would be "Freilassing". The strange destination naming is so that
Salzburg shows up as the destination on the information displays on the
train and in the station, most passengers actually travel to Salzburg.

Westbahn, gangway section of an end car. The electronic inverters take
up most space above the bogies, so there is a long "tunnel" with a
handrail to hold yourself during the sometimes shaky ride near a
station.

tables in groups of four.

Westbahn, "Westcafé" in a middle car. Passengers can take a croissant
(1 eur to be paid to the steward), other snacks (sandwiches and cakes) are
served by the "Weststeward" of which there should be one in each car, but
currently it looks as if there are only four.

Westbahn, upper floor of a middle car. Here the seats are in rows.
From this perspective you can also see the elegant curve of the stairs.
All seats are mounted on the sidewalls, which means there are no hard to
clean "dirt corners" on the floor.

Westbahn, upper floor of a middle car. Bench seat at the end of the car,
above the door mechanism for the entrance door which is right below. The
window is very small, perhaps for structural reasons.

Westbahn, middle car. In one of the cars the lower floor has a wheelchair
zone with accessible toilet/washroom and the end section where the toilets
is used for a "smoking lounge". However due to lawsuits smoking is currently
forbidden even here, as explained by the paper on the door, and the ashtrays
were removed. Nevertheless the room was full of passengers.

Westbahn, middle car, lower floor. The seats are arranged in rows; one
corner is used for a luggage shelf.

Westbahn, middle car, lower floor. More detailed view of the seats.
Two electric plugs can be found on each double seat. The legroom is
excellent and there is a folding table. The seats can recline by moving
the seat cushion forward. However there is no rubbish bin; passengers
have to wait for the steward to take the trash away.

Westbahn, middle car, lower floor. Luggage shelf, with coin operated
cable locks for bags. The lower board can be folded up to make space for
bicycles if needed.

Westbahn, middle car, lower floor. Seats on the right, luggage shelf on
the left; behind the sliding doors are the car's entrance doors, which
are at platform level and wider than anything found in other intercity
trains.

Westbahn, menu card. These drinks and snacks can be obtained from the
"Westcafé" (which is located in each of the four middle cars).
