Tensioning assembly of the overhead wires in Graz Hbf. Both wires of
the catenary are tensioned by the same weight; the reel mechanism
increases the pulling force. The weight can go up and down, so the
wires are at the same mechanical tension if they contract and expand
at different temperatures. On a winter day, the weight would be higher
up because the wires are shorter. 2002-09-05.

Switching post in Graz Hbf, used to switch on and off the electricity
on the tracks of the station. The switches are high enough that people
on the platform don't get close to dangerous voltage. 2002-09-05.

Two different types of overhead wire tensioning weights
between Judendorf-Straßengel and Graz. In front,
one wheel and one weight is used for both wires, whereas in
the background separate weights are used for the upper and
lower wire.

Österreichische Bundesbahn, Außerfernbahn, Tyrol, Austria. Power supply switches in Ehrwald (Tyrol). The sign says: Unauthorized operating of the switches will be prosecuted as railway outrage. Note also that there's a switch which connects the line towards "Vienna", although Ehrwald is located between Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) and Reutte... The "Vienna" switch connects the line towards Germany. Maybe someone thought about a train for Vienna from Ehrwald via Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck? Photo by Stephan R.
