Städtische Straßenbahn Wien Stadtbahn (city railway) unit
composed of powered cars type N no. 2706 and 2861 with trailer type n
no. 5538 in the middle. From 1925 to 1927, 180 powered cars type N,
150 trailers type n and 120 lightweight trailers type n1 were built.
They could be composed in trains of up to three power cars, up to nine
cars total. These were the first electric cars of the Stadtbahn, in
service until 1961. Originally painted white/red like trams, they were
repainted all over red in 1929 because brake dust looked ugly on the
white paint. The cars are 11.6 m long, a power car weighs 17.5 t and
a trailer weighs 9.5 t. Each power car has 140 to 144 kW power.
