Two-axle third-class passengercoach Cu 9424, built 1898 by Waggon- & Tenderfabrik F. Ringhoffer (Smichov) as one of 864 passenger coaches of the Wiener Stadtbahn. 48 wooden seats to both sides of the central aisle. Open end platforms with four steps. In 2007/2008 this coach was restored, using the running gear, platforms and barriers, the inner front walls, ceiling and floor of the original. To bring it back to as-built appearance the teakwood panelling, the roof's fabric covering, the steps and boards of theplatforms, the ceiling, doors and windows had to be remanufactured. In 1873 two three-axle saloon cars were built by Ringhoffer for Empress Elisabeth. As requested they looked rather plain on the outside, not much different from regular rolling stock. The Hz 0010, with a salon and used for daytime travels, has not survived. The Hz 0011 with bedroom, boudoir with dressing table and water closet was used for longer journeys in addition to the Hz 0010. It was equipped with self-contained coal heating and capable of being used in all Europe. In 1895 it was equipped with steam heating and electric lights. After Elisabeth's death in 1898 the sleeping-car was not used. In 1905 it was donated to the Railway Museum which 1916 became part of the Technical Museum. The interior was restored in 2002. Salon sleeping car Hz 0011 built 1873 for Empress Elisabeth. In front you can see a wheelset with wooden discs (patent by Beattier). This type of wheel was used to reduce noise and installed, among others, on the royal saloon coaches of 1873. Technisches Museum Wien, 2014-06-24. |
