Second class compartment car ÖBB Bmz 61 81 21-71 031-2. This one has new
colours (exterior and interior), but kept its open toilets. It is allowed
for 160 km/h (Fiat Eurofima bogies). The doors have been replaced by a
type similar to that of the 200 km/h airtight cars. Graz Hbf, 2002-09-05.

ÖBB-EC 555 "MyElectric" after arrival in Graz. This is a
modernized second class compartment car Bmz 61 81 21-71 053-6,
with FIAT Y0270S bogies, 160 km/h. These cars were rebuilt with IFE
doors, but kept their original window frames. Graz Hbf, 2002-12-16.

ÖBB 61 81 21-91 073-0 Bmz in the EC "Polonia" in Wien Südbahnhof. One of the last remaining Eurofima cars in 1988 colours. 2009-07-06. |
Two modernized ÖBB second class compartment cars in the EC 556:
Left, a Bmz 21-71.0 (Eurofima car); right, a Bmz 21-91.0 (airtight
EuroCity car). The car on the left has been rebuilt with a button
operated IFE door similar (but not identical) to the car on the
right. As you can see, the window frames are different too. The
Eurofima car has Fiat Y0270S bogies, whereas the airtight car on
the right has MD 522 bogies (licensed to Jenbacher). Graz Hbf,
2002-11-14.

Rear view of the EC 556, consisting entirely of modernized cars.
All cars are air-conditioned; most are equipped for 200 km/h, except
for the first class car Ampz 18-75 and two second class cars Bmz 21-71,
which only go up to 160 km/h. (The line Graz - Wien is only good for
150 km/h though, with many slower sections.) Except for the Ampz 18-75,
all cars are equipped with magnetic rail brakes. The last car is an
Eurofima car Bmz 21-71. Graz Hbf, 2002-11-14.

Rear view of the delayed EN 234 "Allegro Tosca" Roma Termini - Wien Meidling. Behind the Trenitalia "Comfort" couchette cars, the last one was an ÖBB compartment car, locked and empty, probably due to some defect. Leoben Hbf, 2010-07-04. |

2nd class compartment car ÖBB Bmz 61 81 21-71 040-3. 66 seats in 11 compartments, RIC (four systems). It seems that this is a modernized car with new style doors and fixed windows, but still only suited for 160 km/h. In the rebuilding programme starting 2002, it will probably be upgraded for 200 km/h. Graz Hbf, March 2002. tbk |
