SBB_MU_WienW.jpg (93756 bytes)

SBB CFF FFS sleeping-car, type MU. Interestingly this car has absolutely no inscriptions pointing to its owner - I had to decipher the number to find out that this is actually a SBB CFF FFS car. Near Wien Westbf, 2002-01-30.

SBB_WLMU.jpg (27391 bytes)

A sleeping-car type MU (a common type in many countries of Europe). This car was originally owned by the CIWL (No. 4777) and sold to the SBB CFF FFS in the seventies. With the introduction of CityNightLine, it was not needed anymore and sold to the reisebüro mittelthurgau, which will overhaul the interior, repaint the sleeping-car and use it in the European section of the Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient-Express on longer excursions. A number of former DB/DSG cars type WLABmh 174 also went from the SBB CFF FFS to the rmt. April 1996, Freiburg (Breisgau) freight station.

NS_MU4747_DH5.jpg (107046 bytes)

NS sleeping-car type MU, No. 61 84 72 71 317-0 4747. It is painted in the latest NS livery for sleeping-cars (dark blue with yellow line and inscription "Slaaprijtuig * Schlafwagen * Voiture-lits"). It has no red lights, but instead two fold-up red/white end-of-train plates (compare to my photo of the 4758, which has no such plates and needs separate EOT signals). Train D 370 Praha - Amsterdam, Dresden Hbf, track 5, 2001-07-11.

NS_MU4758_1.jpg (70711 bytes)

NS sleeping-car type MU, No. 61 84 72-71 328-7, unofficial CIWL number 4758, in the train 370 Praha - Amsterdam, seen from the end with no doors. As you can see, this sleeping-car has no red tail lights, so before the train departs, a red/white reflecting plate marking the end of the train has to be put up at the end. Dresden Hbf, 2000-12-12.
